Worldwide, land and water pollution from discarded flip-flops is a surprisingly enormous and growing problem. Ocean Sole transforms over 50 tons of discarded flip-flops found in the ocean and on land each year, upcycling them into art to help remedy the situation and raise awareness of the problem globally.

In the wild, elephants are endangered due to illegal ivory hunting and poaching, destruction of their natural habitat, human retaliation for loss of crops, slow gestation and low numbers of offspring in general. A few more facts about these majestic creatures we can't afford to lose:

  • Elephants are the largest land animals, weighing in at 6 tons on average.
  • They have 100,000 muscles in their dextrous trunks, and use their tusks for digging and defending.
  • They use their big ears to flap away excess heat.
  • They have complex matriarchal societies and mourn their dead

These wonderful, upcycled animals are playful art pieces, and they have positively impacted many by cleaning up over a thousand tons of flip-flops from the ocean and waterways in Kenya, as well as providing steady income to over 150 low-income Kenyans.

Each of our upcycled Flip-Flop Elephants is sculpted individually.

Medium: Made with 18 flip-flops
               20cm x 10cm x 13cm (7.8" x 3.5" x 5.2")

Ocean Sole contributes over 10% of their revenue to marine conservation programs such as the Ocean Conservancy: working to bring people, science and policy together with a mission to counter the many threats to ocean health and sustainability. From protecting vital, vulnerable ecosystems through legislation, to enforcing accountability among leaders, Ocean Conservancy seeks solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it.

"I fell in love with these colorful, whimsical animals and love having them on my desk.  They are a wonderful reminder of how important it is to reduce plastic in our oceans and protect marine and terrestrial wildlife.  And I never get tired of telling the story of Ocean Sole and all they're doing to get flip-flops out of landfills and oceans." - Tigger
